Climate Change and the Transportation Industry

The conversation about climate change, in particular, the conversation about who is at fault, often places the blame on industry, whose greenhouse emissions, many say, far surpass those of individuals. However, this is not necessarily the case. According to the EPA, in the United States, the transportation sector is the largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, composing 27% of total emissions while industry composes only 24% (EPA, 2020).

HOW PROPOSITION 30 IS DIVIDING THE CALIFORNIA DEMOCRATIC PARTY

It’s election season, and come November 8th there is a single environmental proposition on California voter’s ballots; Proposition 30, which aims to increase funding for electric vehicles. According to the Senate office of District 13 annual report, in the state of California the largest producer of greenhouse gas emissions is in fact not industry, which constitutes 21.1% of total emissions, but transportation, which constitutes 40.1% of total emissions.
